Quotes

Superboy: There’s a lot of history here, isn’t there?Red Tornado: Yes. This is where it all started. When the Justice League was first formed, this was their base of operations.

Superboy (after getting shot): I guess that answers that! Ghosts… can’t shoot you.

Synopsis “Haunted”

Previously: Seeking to prove themselves to their mentors Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Robin collaborated to investigate the Cadmus genetic laboratories in Washington, DC. They discovered and liberated a teenage clone of Superman called Superboy. Batman recognised the potential in the new group as a covert team able to go where the high-profile Justice League is otherwise unable to operate. Batman has now brought the youths to the Justice League’s old Mount Justice headquarters to brief them on their new mission and their new team-mates…

Quotes

Black Canary: Did anybody see what he [Kid Flash] did wrong?Robin: Oh. Oh. He hit on teacher and got served!Kid Flash: Dude!

Superboy: I HATE monkeys!

Synopsis “Schooled”

For time reasons Screen Shots and Graphics will follow later in the week, but for now here is the text of my review.

August 3rd - A busy rush hour in Metropolis is thrown into chaos as cracks appear in one of the city’s massive suspension bridges. Superman welds repairs with his heat vision. Superboy arrives moments later and lands heavily on the bridge deck. He starts pulling cars back from the edge of the bridge and is just pulling a school bus to safety when Superman scoops it up and sets it down. Superman castigated his young clone for his heavy landing which could have destabilized the bridge. He tells Superboy that “we don’t yet know the limits of your powers”, but when Superboy asks for help figuring that out Superman hurriedly tells him that “Batman’s got that covered” and ducks out to answer an emergency call from Green Arrow. Batman, who had watched the entire encounter though binoculars, radios Superman and tells him “we need to talk!”

Quotes

Tuppence Terror: <unnhh> Son, you do pack a wallop…Superboy: Lady, I’m not your son.Tuppence Terror: And I ain’t no lady.

Tuppence Terror: Big mistake pissant!Kid Flash: That’s Kid Pissant to you, sister!

Synopsis “Stopover”

Previously in “Independence Day” and “Fireworks”: Aqualad, Robin, and Kid Flash has hoped that their induction into the Justice League would actually mean something, but it turned out to be more symbolic than real. They sought to prove themselves to the League so they infiltrated Cadmus Labs and liberated a teenage clone of Superman called Superboy. Their fight with Cadmus leveled the above ground facility and brought a response from the full Justice League. Batman told them that they were being stood down, but Aqualad and co stood up to him and for what they had achieved together.

Quotes

Desmond: Activate the cloning process.Robin: Pass! The Batcave’s crowded enough as it is.

Kid Flash: Are you here to help us or fry us?Superboy: <squints> Huh, I don’t seem to have heat vision so I suppose helping is my only option.

Superboy: Superman can fly. Why can’t I fly?Kid Flash: I don’t know, but you can still leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Synopsis “Independence Day Part Two”

Previously in “Independence Day Part One”: Today was meant to be the day that the teen sidekicks were given access to the Hall of Justice, but what they got was less than they expected. Speedy, Green Arrow’s sidekick, stormed off in disgust and the League were called away on another matter. Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad decided to prove themselves to the Justice League by infiltrating Project Cadmus – a place Batman had voiced his suspicions about. They discovered a vast underground facility beneath Washington where Chief Scientist Doctor Marc Desmond has assembled an army of genetically engineered creatures. In its deepest caverns they discovered a teenaged clone of Superman. They woke the “Superboy”, but he was being telepathically controlled by Desmond’s gene-gnomes and attacked his liberators.

Quotes

Flash: Calm down Kid.Kid Flash: Oh please! You’ll chat it up with the cops, with bystanders, with Cold even. No, no way. Today’s the day!

Green Arrow: Roy, you just need to be patient.Speedy: What I need is respect. They’re treating us like kids. Worst, sidekicks! We deserve better than this.

Synopsis “Independence Day Part One”

July 4th – In a chain of seemingly unrelated incidents Batman and Robin defeat Mister Freeze in Gotham City, Green Arrow and Speedy knock out Icicle Jr. in Star City, Aquaman and Aqualad take down Killer Frost at Pearl Harbour, and the Flash and Kid Flash stop Captain Cold’s robbery in Central City. All the young heroes are all impatient as “Today’s the day”, July 4th Independence Day, the day they get official access to the Justice League’s Hall of Justice.

Michael Cho’s Superboy

Illustrator Michael Cho has created a delightful Superboy piece showing the teen of steel carrying a red wagon, two kids, and a suspiciously recognisable white puppy. It will grace the cover of a coming Superboy collection. You can see the full piece on Michael’s blog. He has a great style, I also like his poster of Superman and Krypton from his portfolio site.
