Cardiff is the capital city of Wales, where I work and where they make the latest incarnation of Doctor Who. Many of the land marks in the series are actually to be found out and about the town. The WWII hospital is just down the road from my office, the alley where the Doctor recruits Rose is next to the cinema where I saw Superman Returns, and I do my Christmas shopping in the store that doubles for Rose’s former workplace. I also once worked around the corner from the street where the Cybermen shot at flying Daleks – I’m convinced its the same street from the alternate universe where Rose and the Doctor discover the earpods. All that, but I’d never actually run into a film crew. At least until today.
I was on my lunch break doing a spot of shopping – looking to buy a Tardis in fact, but that’s a different story – when I spotted two large inflatable snowmen next to my favourite bookstore. Upon closer inspection there was also a BBC film crew, a crowd of spectators, and a tall woman in a bride’s dress (probably Catherine Tate). Somebody said that David Tennant was around, but I didn’t spot him. They weren’t doing much and I had to get back to the office. The thing is that it’s the middle of summer and it’s 75F outside. If they’re filming a Christmas special with winter clothing then the cast are going to swelter.
