Site Updates (page 9)

Archives and Wallpapers

A couple of new additions to the site this week. Jelly Whitworth has been kind enough to send me a collection of wallpapers he made depicting the live action incarnations of his favourite DC heroes. You can find these images in our new Wallpaper Section. I’ve also put together an expanded archive section for the posts on the main page. You can now list them by category and by month in the new Archives Section. By default the front page will only show the ten most recent posts, but the rest are still accessible from the archive.

Superman Profile

Piccy of Superman, not real much more to say about it really. Finally some new content – well almost new. As I’ve mentioned before the Superman profile has been a feature of all the versions of the site. It is now updated with the storylines from B13′s first appearance up until the recent “Neverending Battle” storyline. I’ve also merged two articles from the last prototyle version of this site into a single behind the scenes “Secret Origin” style Superman article.

Special mention should be made for the Superman Homepage. My collection of Superman comics from the last three years has a number of holes so I’m indebted to the their comprehensive Mild Manners Reviews. These have allowed me to fill-in more than a couple of plot holes. Thanks guys.

Some day I must get around to doing a resources/links page.

The Kents

Everytime I start changing this site it is always ends up being Superman profile that gets done first. This is partially due to the sheer amount of material that gets published on the character. Consider this – Superman is effectively published weekly! Thats the equivalent of four times the material of a character like the Flash or Wonder Woman. Even Batman doesn’t have that much material because a lot of his books are non-continuity heavy. Superman has at least 68 years worth of material to index in the post-Crisis universe. Add to that biographies of Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Manchester Black, Brainiac, plus a host of characters like Supergirl, Superboy, and Steel and you get almost an entire website in itself. The damn thing is getting beyond a joke! But I enjoy it strange person that I am.

As a bit of a tit-bit I’ve put together a Kent family tree. It isn’t finished yet, but I could do with a bit of help as I don’t have access to my copy of the Kents. Its all in the link. TTFN

Feedback

Hello Justice Fans (that was close — almost typed True Believers). As the Captain’s Unofficial Justice League Homepage is slowly rebuilt I’ll be trying out new and sometimes short lived ideas. Monkeying around with web-tech is as much a hobby to me as comics. I would really be grateful for peoples feedback on the site. Can you read all the text okay? Are the colours too confusing? Have you tried the alternate stylesheet (you’ll need an up to date browser for that)? Are the pages easy enough to access? I’d also like to hear your wish lists for new articles or articles to be updated from the archive section.

How to give you comments: At the bottom of each of these posts is a little “Comments” link – operates just like a simple message board or an old style guest book. Just click on the link and let the world (or at least the other readers) know your views/comments. If you have more specific questions or comment you can e-mail me at jla@captain.custard.org.

June Previews

First actual update of content to the site since the new format. I’ve added a page of stuff for DC shipping in June, plus the DC Direct stuff that will be in the same issue of Previews. This section will only be experimental until I finally decide on the format. Way to graphics heavy at the moe. As to the actual issues themselves the JLA: WORKWEEK and JSA: ALL-STARS #2 look the most interesting.

A New Look

Finally I’ve managed to get the new look and style finished. Its only really experimental at the moment, but this new weblog based cover page should allow much easier updating and management. A new feature is that you can now add comments after each of these posts. Just click on the “comment” link under each post and leave your comments (sensible please) in the pop-up box.
