Site Updates

Time for a bit of a spring clean I think. Nothing too drastic,

• just switching the blog theme to the blueprint CSS framework (with the liquid plug-in and a larger font to make things easier on my old eyes),
• updating to WordPress 2.8 (nice admin redux) and various plugins,
• and an attempt to move away from Gallery 2 (too ponderous) to the rather slimmer NextGen gallery plugin.

Most of that will be completely meaningless to anybody who doesn’t have their own blog, but nevermind.

As a blogger I sometimes I think I’m like the weekend mechanic who spends more time pulling his car apart and rebuilding it that he actually spends driving it.

Back in 1997 Phil Jimenez did two amazing double page spreads for the first JLA Secret Files. I still haven’t finalized our new galleries, but Lewis asked for those two images in the comments to an old post so here they are:

Scanning double page spreads is always hard as there is no easy way to cope with the fold. These images are particularly touch as they’re to the back of the book, where the page curl is greatest, rather than being nice and flat across the centre pages.

Hopefully if you’re reading this you’ve been 303 redirected from our old site to this new location. Don’t worry this is still the Captain’s Unofficial JLA Homepage, Blog, Bar and Grill. We’ve just moved across town.

For the last 7-8 years we’ve been hosted on the captain subdomain of custard.org. It’s been a great experience and I’m eternally grateful to Martin for the free hosting. However, the site was beginning to use more disc space than I was happy with so I decided to move to a commercial host and a domain name of my own.  You’ll still find that the non-blog sections of the homepage are still on the custard domain. I’ll be moving them over bit-by-bit when I’m ready, but there is no timetable for that yet.

I have no doubts that there will be glitches and other stuff that I haven’t found yet so please be patient.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the new design so please leave your comments on this post.

Just a minor note to say that I’ve locked forums. They’ve always quiet, a bit of a fallow experiment really, but we had a spam attack over Christmas and, well, its going to be a while before I can sort it out (I may just delete the entire thing).
