Justice Speedway of America

One of the stranger cross promotion events came to a conclusion last weekend at the Michigan speedway. The Justice League cartoon show in conjunction with Hotwheels Toys and NASCAR racing used one of their races to stage a mock superhero battle. A number of the cars were painted with livery displaying the heroes of the Justice League cartoon. The race was (logically enough) won by The Flash car driven by Greg Biffle. I’m not really sure how familiar the drivers were with their League totems, but Biffle wasn’t the only person to refer to the Flash as Flash Gordon and others mistook the Green Lantern for the Green Hornet.

Justice League Unlimited

Cartoon Network have announced their line up for the 2004-2005 schedule. It will include an unprecedented 500 new half-hour programming blocks, unfortunately not all of these will be Justice League : )  Their statement confirmed earlier rumours about a name change for the show with the launch of the new Challenge of the Justice League Justice League Unlimited series.

The following is the Justice League section of their announcement.

The heroes of the Justice League return in August with a new series, Justice League Unlimited, which incorporates a bold new look and a much larger scope. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern continue to lead the universe’s most powerful superheroes in an effort to stop criminal plots and alien threats that endanger the universe. Now, in Justice League Unlimited, they are joined by an even greater collection of heroes some of whom are well-known, like Supergirl, Green Arrow and the Atom, as well as some that are less familiar, like Booster Gold, Hawk & Dove, Elongated Man, The Question, Mister Miracle, Big Barda and Zatanna. Each half-hour will tell a power-packed story, combining some of the original heroes with new ones as they band together to battle alien invasions, powerful sorcerers, vast shadowy conspiracies and even ancient gods.

Static Shock

The Comics Continuum reported this morning that the latest episode of Static Shock features a guest appearance form the animated Justice League. The second part of the two part appearance, entitled “A League of Their Own”, will air this Saturaday. CC quote the Kids WB description of the first episode:

“In this special crossover event, the Justice League enlists Static’s help to recharge their Watch Tower after it’s struck by a cosmic anomaly and the central power core begins to drain! When the ‘J. League’ receives an emergency call, Static and Gear are left behind only to discover that the computer virus, Brainiac, is taking over the system. A chase ensues as they try to save the Watch Tower from Brainiac’s corrupt take-over tactics until Batman, The Flash, Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern can make it back in time. Just when everything appears to be under control, things take an unexpected turn before all is revealed in the stunning conclusion of part two.”

The CC report features video caps of the first episode and comments from voice actor Phil LaMarr (Static. Green Lantern).
