Batman and Robin by Richard Cox

The one things that differentiates the Dick Grayson Batman visually from the Bruce Wayne Batman is the addition of that little punk. The kid should be a massive negative (c.f. the second incarnation of the Jason Todd Robin),  but there is just something about his attitude that works so well. That’s why I liked this piece by Richard Cox. Damian with all his attitude is bearing down on some unseen criminal whilst Dick it standing-by with a Batline ready to either join in or haul Damian back as necessary.

Donna Troy by Heni Lopez

Continuing this short series of JLA fan art beings us to Donna Troy. Now there is a lot of Donna art out there, a lot of it cheesecake, but I think this piece (above) by Heni Lopez captures something else. I love the way he’s taken the universe motif from her costume and carried it into the shadows in her hair.

Quotes

Max: Ivo, we have got to improve the security on this @#$% ship.

Max: Geez, Michael, did you think threatening me was actually going to end this?
Booster Gold: No. I was hoping I’d have to beat you like a damn dog first.
Max: Now you’re talking.

Synopsis "Caught"

Previously: It has all come down to this – the final confrontation between the manipulative Maxwell Lord and his former allies in the Justice League International. Via the Blue Beetle the JLI have learnt that Max has been building an android powerful enough to destroy Wonder Woman (despite most of the world not remembering who she is, who Max is, or that she ever killed Max). The last-minute assistance of Power Girl and Batman (Bruce Wayne) leads them to Wonder Woman moments before hundreds of OMACs fill the skies.

Unused JLA Jade cover by Adam Hughes

DC’s recent Icons cover theme showed their characters in dynamic poses against a stark white background. Well it looks like DC over-commissioned and were left with unused artwork. The above image of Jade was posted to the web by Adam Hughes (who is at pains to point out that DC didn’t reject the image and that they are reserving it for something other than the planned Icons cover run). The medium was “Pencil & PITT pen on Strathmore Drawing Paper, then colored in Adobe Photoshop CS2″.

The actual Justice League of America Icons cover showed the entire JLA and was drawn by Mark Bagley. The Starman/Congorilla one-shot Icons cover was drawn by Gene Ha.

Quotes

Cyborg Superman: My throat is artificial. How can it be so dry?

Batman: Mikaal… Superman died. Do you remember when all of that went down. You have to. Right?
Starman: Er honestly, I was an emaciated drugged exhibit in a freak show at the time, so no.

Synopsis "Reign of Doomsday Part Five: No Exit!"

Previously: Doomsday, the juggernaut who had once killed Superman, has returned and has been stalking the quartet of heroes/villains who tried to succeeded Superman. It has already captured Steel and the Eradicator and has now turned its attention to Hank Henshaw, the Cyborg Superman. Henshaw had escaped from the Green Lantern Corps by hiding his program within the cybernetics of the Alpha Lantern Boodikka. In JLA #55: Boodikka was talking to Supergirl and Batman (Dick Grayson) near the remains of New Krypton when Doomsday attacked. The heroes managed to flee to the Justice League’s Watchtower, but the Cyborg revealed his presence just as Doomsday caught up with them. Continue reading
