Phil Jimenez’s JLA/Transformers pitch

I can only assume that the chaos associated with the launch of the New 52 caused a form of temporary insanity at DC Comics which saw them pass on the brilliant idea of a crossover between the Justice League and the Transformers. The idea was brought to them by writer/Artist Phil Jimenez, who is no stranger to complex crossovers involving the Justice League (he provided the art for JLA/Titans).

The entire pitch would have remained a secret dead-end, but Brian Michael Bendis thought Phil’s art for the pitch was so fantastic that he shared it on his Tumblr feed (shown above).  On Twitter, Jimenez lamented that “Oh, what an epic that would have been!”.  The image includes concepts of a transformer based on the Batmobile/plane and a female transformer based on Wonder Woman’s invisible plane. We would also have got to see Green Lantern Optimus Prime (a concept suggested by IDW editor Chris Ryall).
