September marks the first anniversary of the DC New 52 reboot/relaunch. To mark this DC are publishing #0 issues of all their normal titles (normal numbering will be restored in October). These deal with the heroes’ origins and the five year period between the Justice League’s first appearance and the present day. A lot of the details were talked about at San Diego Comic-Con 2012.

The Justice League makes way for a full Shazam origin issue, Justice League Dark features the oft hinted at romance between Constantine and Zatanna, and Earth 2 revisits the time before the Apokolips War. Even the Young Justice title gets in on the action as it makes the jump into the show’s second season continuity. I think that’s a pity as they haven’t reached the end of the first season yet, but keeping pace with the on-screen team must make marketing sense.

A notable absence this month is Justice League International which was cancelled with issue #12. It’s one of the book that were cancelled to make way for DC’s Third Wave. There are no new books named Justice League in that line-up, but there are two books that spin-out of the League franchise. The first is a Team-7 book (written by Justin Jorden, art by Jesus Merino) set in the early days of the New DCU. It features a special-ops team which includes the Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller, A.R.G.U.S.’s Steve Trevor, Bird of Prey’s Black Canary, and the pre-codename Deathstroke and Grifter. The second series is the Phantom Stranger by DC Publisher Dan Didio. Its probably best to say that I’m more intrigued than excited by these new books.
