Injustice: Gods Among Us

There is a new DC Universe beat-em-up game on the horizon called Injustice: Gods Among Us from Ed Boon (original Mortal Kombat co-creator) and NetherRealm Studios. The game features interactive environments and two classes of characters — power and gadget. Which class of character you chose will depend on how they interact with the background objects. The provision release date is just 2013.

There is also an interview version with producer Ed Boon up at Gamespot and a placeholder Official Website.

DC’s last major licensed beat-em-up was the poorly received Mortal Kombat Versus DC Universe, a crossover it seemed nobody was asking for or was satisfied with. That game was put out by Midway Games in 2008. They’ve since been brought in-house by WB and renamed NetherRealm Studios (after one of the Realm in the Mortal Kombat mythology). Its NetherRealm and original MK producer Ed Boon who are producing the new Injustice game. NetherRealm also produce the Arkham City Lockdown spin-off for the iPhone.

The game’s name appears to be lifted from a plot device in a recent JL story. Justice League: Gods Among Us is a fictional book written by David Graves, the new big bad in the next JL arc. Oddly it looks like Wonder Woman is wearing a version of her costume from the defunct pilot.
