Quotes

Green Lantern: Hey, Flash.

Flash: What?

Green Lantern: I say we ditch black and blue, and figure this out ourselves. We don’t need them. Batman’s a pain in the ass, and Superman doesn’t know what this is.

Dr Silas Stone: OPEN YOUR EYES, SON! Look at the world we live in today! We’re witnessing the birth of a new race of people. Super-humans. Beings who can fly, tear through buildings and outrun race cars. They will make what you “do” obsolete!

Synopsis "Justice League Part Two" (22-pages)

The super-humans first appearance five years before the present-day, but their formation into the Justice League was not without misunderstanding and pain. Batman and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) had teamed-up to fight a large alien brute in Gotham City. It committed suicide and shouted “For Darkseid!”, but left behind an unusual box-device. Batman and Lantern followed the alien lead to the mysterious Superman who had recently appeared in Metropolis. However, Green Lantern’s aggressive stance only succeeded in precipitating a fight between them. In Detroit, high-school football star Victor Stone is disappointed that his father has again failed to show up for his game.

Quotes

The Joker: With so much power at my finger tips some might call me a control freak. Others, just a freak.

Synopsis "Revelations"

October 1st – The peace and quite of a Metropolis street is shattered by the sudden eruption of a mutant thorny vine from beneath the side-walk. The writhing vine is small at first, but it coils around itself and rapidly grows to skyscraper size. Not only is its size unnatural, but the vine is animate and sprouts flower/arm like tendrils which throw police cars around. The “test” is watched from afar and is declared a complete success by Count Vertigo and his Injustice League (Poison Ivy, Black Adam, Wotan, Ultra-Humanite, the Atomic Skull, and the Joker).

Superman Vs Wonderman ruling

Over at BC Mark Seifert has linked to a copy of the check which DC Comics gave to Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in payment for the rights to Superman. Mark also mentions the first legal case involving Superman where DC sued Fox Comics over a character called Wonder Man. The wonderfully named judge August Hand (in the comics he would be a super villain) wrote in his judgement that:

Defendants attempt to avoid the copyright by the old argument that various attributes of “Superman” find prototypes or analogues among the heroes of literature and mythology. But if the author of “Superman” has portrayed a comic Hercules, yet if his production involves more than the presentation of a general type he may copyright it and say of it: “A poor thing but mine own.” Perhaps the periodicals of the complainant are foolish rather than comic, but they embody an original arrangement of incidents and a pictorial and literary form which preclude the contention that Bruns was not copying the antics of “superman” portrayed in “Action Comics”. We think it plain that the defendants have used more than general types and ideas and have appropriated the pictorial and literary details embodied in the complainant’s copyrights.

Which is rather nice description of Superman’s originality, even if the judge felt his comics were “foolish rather than comic”.

Quotes

Robin: I thought vulchers only ate dead meat.
Kid Flash: Yeah, these are some very proactive scavengers.

Synopsis "Alpha Male"

September 10th – Hamilton Hill, the Mayor of Gotham City, is on vacation in Northern India. Hill, an avid big game hunter, has dismissed his local guides who were telling tales of “devil beasts” and is tracking an endangered Indian tiger with his two companions. They eventually find the magnificent specimen beneath an isolated tree. Just as Hill has the tiger in his scope three mechanical probes extend from the ground and stuns it unconscious. Hill’s surprised party turns to face a noise from behind them and come face-to-face with a gorilla carrying a mini-gun. Hill escapes into the undergrowth, but his fellow hunters are cut down by the mini-gun’s fire.

Justice League: Doom trailer

The first trailer for Justice League: Doom, the next DC Universe animated-DVD after the just released Batman: Year One, has premièred online. The film featured the Legion of Doom, led by Vandal Savage, as they attempt to destroy the Justice League using plans stolen from the Batman. The film is written by the late Dwayne McDuffie and is based (loosely) on “Tower of Babel” by Mark Waid.  The League’s voices are preformed by Kevin Conroy (Batman), Tim Daly (Superman), Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman), Carl Lumby (J’onn J’onzz), Michael Rosenbaum (Flash, Barry Allen this time) from the old DCAU days and they are joined by Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern Hal Jordan).

Updated: 2011/10/20 with higher-quality trailer from IGN’s Youtube channel.

Quotes

Madame Xanadu: I saw a gathering of men… and women. Each with their own… speciality. You must find these men and women. You must…
Rac Shade: You’ve finally lost it, Xanadu. The only people I know these days are half-insane or damaged goods. Most of them are a danger to themselves.
Madame Xanadu: Exactly.

Synopsis "In The Dark Part One: Imaginary Women" (20-pages)

The fortune-teller Madame Xanadu surveys her tarot cards as they tell her that something dark is coming and that a desperate group of individuals will be needed to face it. June Moone walks though the world unsure of why the words of “There was a Crooked Man” plague her mind or why thirty exact duplicates of herself have appeared causing a massive automotive pile-up on the interstate. In his motel room Shade the Changing Man tells “Kathy” that he has to leave to investigate the signals from his M-Vest. “Kathy” freaks out when she starts dissolving and realises she’s just a product of the M-Vest’s reality warping power – a construct created by the lonely Shade.
