I’d thought you meant that she was Zatanna because you mentioned the Zatara link.

I still think that Artemis Crock is too obscure a character for them to be this coy over. If they are being his cagey over a prominent character it would (should) be something everybody (well DC readers at least) have heard of.

Ah, I found the source — it’s from Greg Weisman himself! — that stated Artemis is NOT the following characters:

Artemis is NOT (quoted words in parathesis indicates the labels Weisman used to describe the character w/o saying their names)…

Hmm, perhaps we’re misunderstanding each other, because I’m not sure where “her being Zatanna” is coming from — and I do agree with you that Artemis being Zatanna would be a waste. I don’t think I explained things well enough, so I’ll try my best to make sense. The theory is that Artemis is actually an existing DC Comics characters by the name of Artemis Crock (who is an archer and has connections to Zatara and Icicle). Because if Artemis IS indeed Artemis Crock, then there could be possible storylines with Zatara and Icicle in the show (like in the comics). As for Zatanna, the speculation is that she would enter the picture after Artemis’s (again, if she is Artemis Crock) storyline with Zatara is played out.

Hmm… I’m more inclined to think Secret/Greta Hayes will be her own character. Secret could be one of the regulars joining either halfway through the season or at the end of it. Or she could just be making a few guest appearances.

Ooh… The Judas Contract was a great storyline in Wolfman/Perez run of Teen Titans, but making Terra Artemis would be…strange. I’m more inclined to think that Young Justice‘s Artemis would be very similar to her DC Comics counterpart. I do see where you’re coming from, though, widening the net to more than just DC comics characters who go by the name Artemis (or any of its variations).

I’m circumspect on her being Zatanna. That is such a strong character that it would be strange to “waste” her in a hidden role – that is unless she’s the JLA’s mole on the team or some other twist.

I’ve got a couple of left of field ideas:
* She could well be the Secret. The Secret was a ghost so this Artemis version could just be a placeholder or temporary identity they’ve given her until they kill her and bring her back as her actual identity.
or
She could be a permutation of a certain Teen Titans character with ties to Deathstroke and Geoforce.

As for who Artemis might be... Folks over at Toon Zone DC Animation forum say Artemis Crock. To paraphrase their observations (source): Artemis Crock... *...is an archer *...has connections to Zatara and Icicle, both of who are characters reportedly appearing in the show **When asked why Zatara was chosen over Zatanna as a Justice League member, Greg Weisman's reply was rather vague: "That will eventually become obvious" (Ask Greg). I didn't clarify how Artemis Crock has connections to Zatara and Icicle, as not to post what might become too spoiler-ish. Wikipedia and Toon Zone forum elaborates on those points, however, and both of these sites have been linked to in my comment. There's also Artemiz, who is also an archer, but apparently, that choice was shot down (I can't find the source for that, though).
