Batman: Arkham Asylum downloadable content

Like many gamers I’ve noticed the ticker in Batman: Arkham Asylum which keeps telling us the new free downloadable content is coming in 9 days, 8 days, etc, however, nobody really knows what it is. I’d love to seem some new story content, maybe another super villain, but I suspect we’ll just get some variants on the already released “challenges.” There is are already exclusive Crime Alley and Skeleton challenges, based on the locations in the Scarecrow’s nightmare sequences, but it’d be a bit of galling if folks have pitched out for the collectors edition only to find part of what they’ve paid extra for is now free. One rumour says that this is exactly what is going to happen.

It’s not that I dislike the challenges, but they’re not really the reason I bought the game. I, for one, wouldn’t mind paying for new story content. The game opens with Batman on his way to Arkham having already having captured the Joker. A prequel mission that allowed you to capture the Joker would be fun.

Updated 14.09.09 - Popcultureshock are reporting that the new expansion, the Insane Night Map Pack (arriving on the 17th), will actually contain all new material. The first challenge has you fighting against an unending hoard of lunatics and the second is a stealth challenge that sounds like it could be in one of the open air arenas.
