Blackest Night villain revealed (spoilers)…

Spoilers…

…so the villain is Nekron. He was the ruler of another dimension, one that was inhabited by the dead – you’re general hates-everything-that-isn’t-dead style cosmic force for entropy. There was an old issue of Captain Atom that showed three aspects of death in the DC Universe – the first was Death of Neil Gaiman’s Endless (compasionate Death or the human face of Death), the second was the Black Racer (heroic Death), and the final was Nekron (Death as a force of evil).

In a brief interview with IGN Geoff Johns confirmed Nekron’s identity as the Blackest Night villain and suggested that he was the reason that Guardians became the protectors of the Universe. The old stories use to claim that the Guardian’s choose to become the protectors of the Universe after they released evil into it. The implication would be that The Evil (TM) released by the Guardians was Nekron. There is a lot of backstory being dribbled out in the Green Lantern titles its got to start reaching critical mass sooner or later.
