The price of Batman LEGO

After playing and reviewing the Batman LEGO video game I thought that it would be nice to pick up some actual Batman LEGO kits. I was in for a rather rude surprise. The kits seem to have been discontinued before the game was released, not only that but they were never released in UK (where I live). An unopened original kit, even just one of the less desirable ones, is listed as several hundred dollars on e-bay and Amazon. There are previously opened kits for less money, but… I don’t know… I kinda want to be the first person to build the kit.

  1. I collect the Lego Architectural kits (so awesome) and I’ve learned that you should never buy Lego sets used. When an Ebay listing says “complete with 106 pieces” that doesn’t necessarily mean they are the *correct* pieces. I’ve gotten into more email wars than I care to remember over that.

Also: Legos got crazy expensive since I was a kid! My parents were pretty poor growing up, but I remember getting the pirate ship for Christmas like it was not a big deal at all. Now something comparable will fetch $120USD!

  2. I know what you mean about the prices. I use to be mad for Classic era SPACE LEGO when I was a kid. There would be something, even just small kit from one relative or another, added each birthday or Christmas. I shudder to think that that stuff would be worth in today’s money.

Man, did they really finish that range in 1987? Now I feel old.
