Oh, I totally forgot that Earth-51 was the graveyard universe in Final Crisis. I thought 52 was a fantastic book, but Countdown really fell flat. By the time Final Crisis came to fruition I wasn't sure why I even bothered reading Countdown.

I think I actually remember something about that limbo world from Superman Beyond 3D. This post basically makes me want to read every DC book Grant Morrison has touched (I'm one of the few fans who adored his work on Final Crisis and the treatment of forgotten characters).

Ah, Countdown. It was a nice idea, but had a terrible execution. It seems to be one of those series that is being quietly ignored. Some of the events in it may have happened, but not really in the way we remember. The New Gods died, one of the Earths was destroyed, but that's about it. Even then the details aren't important for Final Crisis itself. The 52 Earths and their monitors feature heavily in Final Crisis and Grant Morrison has a new project coming up called Multiplicity.

There is one particular arc of Animal Man that deals with a potential second crisis and the limbo of forgotten characters. Although, I'd recommend Morrison's Animal Man run to anybody.

Didn't the 52 Earths go away again at the end of Countdown to Final Crisis? Or was that just the monitors? It's been a long while since I read those books, so I could be way off.

This makes me really want to read Animal Man now; I had no idea it was multiverse-centric.
