I’m quite impressed with the Carphone Warehouse – I needed a new USB cable (one of those odd proprietary formats) for my mobile phone and they just gave me one. I asked them if they sold the one I wanted and they said no, but the assistant told me to hang on while he disappeared into the back of the shop. He reappeared with a bagged cable and just gave it to me. They must have a box of left over cables from returned or demo phones. The thing is that the Orange Accessory shop sells the same cables for 15 quid (~25 dollars), which just shows you now much the telephone networks are out to screw us.
I’ve been eye-ing up a new mobile phone for a while now. My current phone is a Sony-Ericsson k550 which was a Christmas present from my parents last year. I even started using it as an mp3 player after discovering that my old player doesn’t bounce. I’ve been using it more and more for mobile internet and e-mail – very rarely to actually make phone calls – to the point that I’m thinking of getting something a little more beefy, probably a Nokia e71 or n96 depending on what the post-launch reviews are. I absolutely refuse to even consider an iPhone – Apple stuff is always a little too locked down for my liking.
