Jerry Robinson has the distinction of being one of the few high-profile first-generation Golden Age creators still working. As the creator/co-creator of a lot of Batman’s extended universe he retains a certain primal link to those times. It’s great to see that DC have hired him as a “creative consultant”, but the press release is seriously short on what he’d actually do for them. (It’s also interesting that he’s listed as a “contributor” and a “vital role” rather than the creator of specific characters). I suppose he could parallel Stan Lee’s promo work for Marvel and it’s good PR to have a man of his stature on-side when the Siegel law suits are going down.
I really hope DC use Robinson’s experience and don’t just leave him to languish is some metaphorical corner office. If nothing else it’d be good to have someone in New York to occasionally clip the current mob around the back of the head and remind them how to really make comics. If nothing else, a new Jerry Robinson strip would look fantastic on the Zuda project.
