Alex Ross’s Justice

Ooooo… pretty. I’ve been a fan of Alex Ross’s work since I picked up the first issue of KINGDOM COME. Since then there was a great Batman/Superman story included in his Mythology book and there have been innumerate guest covers, posters, plates*, lithographys, statues, t-shirts, action figures, and tea towels. Okay I made that last one up, but you get the point. His actual DC story output has been limited to the series of treasury-sized oneshots he did with Paul Dini, but we haven’t had a regular comic-sized issues for sometime. That effort has been focused on Marvel’s Earth/Universe-X, so I’m rather pleased to see previews of his new JUSTICE series from the same writing team.

The Ross Report (the news column of the official Alex Ross site) and Newsarama have twelve-page previews of the first issue. And the art and story look excellent. I’m sure the Super Friends connection will have some fans rolling their eyes, but I don’t mind too much. I also wonder if there will be any themes carried over to this series from the aborted KINGDOM ongoing series.

*WTF are commemorative plates about?!? If you’re looking for a picture to hang get a good lithograph print and leave the tableware for eating off of. I’m reminded by a Jeff Foxworthy routine where he laments that “Sophisticated people invest their money in stock portfolios. Rednecks invest their money in commemorative plates!”
