Bravo’s top 20 super-heroes

Did anybody else just watch Bravo Channel’s Ultimate Super-Heroes? I found it a very stange list. One of those lists compiled by people other than hardcore comic books fans, which means that it’s not just the Ultimate Comic-book Super-powered Costumed-heroes that most of us would draw up. It could more appropriately to called the Ultimate Adventure Heroes. The list they drew up was:

20. Men in Black
19. Blade
18. Conan The Barbarian
17. Austin Powers
16. The Tick
15. Dare Devil
14. The Mask
13. Flash Gordon
12. Hellboy
11. Spawn
10. The Hulk
09. The Fantastic Four
08. The Incredibles
07. X-Men
06. Luke Skywalker
05. Indiana Jones
04. James Bond
03. Batman
02. Superman
01. Spider-Man

You can always pull these list a-part asking:what about Wonder Woman, what about Captain Marvel (the really one), or even on this list what about Neo or what about Captain Kirk? But there are somethings on this list that begger belief! I mean, come on, the Incredibles ranking higher than the Fantastic Four?!?

I’ve highlighted in bold the characters I think are true super-heroes. The Tick and the Incredibles are fun, but their not serious. Spawn, Hellboy, Blade, and the Mask are also interesting characters, but their not true super-heroes. They’d never get past the Legion membership committee. And don’t get me started on the looser in the top slot. Time to break out the arachnid-repellant batspray!

    Couldn’t agree more. I’m a devoted Batman fan, but I can understand why Superman would be ranked higher;
by no more than 1 slot, of course. But Spiderman? There’s absolutely nothing that justifies his
ranking except his current popularity, and I don’t think this was intended to be a popularity contest.
Superman should have been number 1 because… well, he’s Superman. I didn’t even question that he would
win. Why don’t you create your own ranking? Maybe that will make me feel more sane about the whole
    thing.
I saw the Vixen and Villain lists as well, and I can agree, overall, with those, but not entirely.
Catwoman is 100% accurate at number one, and I can live with Darth Vader as the ultimate villain, as
long as The Joker’s number two. Any problems with those lists?

But you have to realize the reasons those heroes were on the list. I dont think it could be argued that all the people on the list were heroes, but they were on the list, no only because they saved the day, but of what they provided to comic book and super hero history and also how they relate to real-life people. I’m surprised that you didnt highlight Luke Skywalker as a “true” hero for reasons that seem obvious to me.
