Smallville

I’ve just finished catching up with the last dozen episodes of Smallville (pretty much the Impulse appearance onwards). The stickler as it turned out was the episode where Lionel Luthor swapped bodies with Clark – it looks like everybody is going to have a secret identity this season – for some reason I just couldn’t watch beyond the teaser without getting a feeling of dread and heading off to do something else. Thankfully I finally stuck with it as it turned out to be one of the better episodes of the season.

What can we say about evil Lana! Kristin Kreuk certainly seems to relish the chance to play outside of the normal Lana zone.

If Chloe gets any more obvious with her hints to Clark she’ll turn a into Monty Python sketch. (“Know what I mean! Nudge. Nudge. Wink. Wink”)

I loved the moment where Lex could easily have lied to Lana about who got Jason sacked. You could see the conflicted pause as he weighted up whether to tell her and you just wanted to scream at the screen for him to do the right thing. It’s a testament to the writers and to Michael Rosenbaum that they actually make you care whether Lex falls to the darkness or not.

Allan Heinberg talks JLA in Wizard #163

Looks like Wizard has got another exclusive. They’ve got comments from the OC’s Executive Producer Allan Heinberg about the JLA arc he’s co-writing with Geoff Johns.

The DCUs most powerful heroes will be paying for their past sins in a new story arc starting with June’s JLA #115, spinning out of last years Identity Crisis mini-series. “This is what happens when the League is held accountable for their actions”, co-writer Allan Heinberg said. “This is about how a team like this, with so many egos and so many different philosophies, has stayed together as long as they have and whether or not they can stay together through this as well. “

Something else interesting – DC Countdown and Wizard #163 both come out the on the same day – can we say major exclusive coverage boys and girls :) Look for both next Thursday.

The Cat and the Canary

I really liked the first episode of the new season of Justice League Unlimited. The simple focus of two characters on a single mission gave room for real character development and quiet moments. I think the cartoon Black Canary may be one of the few animated characters that is actually more powerful than their comic book equivalent. You can find screenshots, analysis, and a full review under the JLU Episode Guide.
