I am beginning to think that comic book message boards are a lost cause. The Official DC JLA Message board can be interesting (the JSA one is a lot better), but often tends to degenerate into a low signal Fanboy frenzy. So I decided to put together a little translation chart for the casual reader:
| A Fanboy Says | …which means… | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Who should win… | Who would care… |
| 2 | If I wrote the League. | Why I shouldn’t write the League. |
| 3 | Who is the strongest? | “Dominate me!” |
| 4 | Who is the hottest? | “I can read comicbooks with one hand.” |
| 5 | Is he or isn’t he? | “Am I?” |
| 6 | Creator X sucks… | …but I’ll still buy the book — which will vindicate creator X’s presence on the book and prolong his tenure |
| 7 | Creator Y hasn’t done anything new in years | I haven’t read anything Creator Y has done outside of franchise W in years |
| 8 | Why did they retcon… | “OH NO. Not plot development!” |
| 9 | Creator Y should work on the book… | Which will trigger responses from 6 & 7 |
| 10. | Character Z shouldn’t be in the League | “I can’t understand the need for Creator X to use characters that he actually has some control over.” |
…and yes I’ve been guilty of one or two of those myself.
