Metropolis , IL

Just a quick post while I’m waiting for the next speaker to begin here at the American Astronomical Society Nashville conference (whoever choose to have his on Memorial Day needs sorting out).

We drove down to Nashville (I current live in central IL) and stopped off in a small town on the IL border. It wasn’t until we pulled off the Interstate that I realised that we’d entered Metropolis! Nice place, pity we didn’t have more time to spend there. The gas station carries Superman mechandise and even hads headless Superman bodies you can use to have your picture taken behind. I was with work friends so I repressed the urge to have my picture taken. The town has a Superman celibration in mid-June (12-15th I think) so check it out if your in the area.

BTW does anybody know what happened to Syndey Happerson from the Superman comics?
